Local Riders Racing at the Red Bull US Grand Prix

MONTEREY, Calif. - The 2009 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix is on July 3-5 and three classes of AMA Pro Racing: AMA Pro SuperSport presented bh Shoei, AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL and AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike presented by Parts Unlimited will be competing at the event in addition to the MotoGP World Championship. All three classes have riders from the area who consider Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca their home race track.

Ricky Corey from Los Gatos is riding an Aprilia and Carmel Valley resident Hawk Mazzotta will ride the Team Aussie Racing Suzuki in American Superbike. The AMA Pro American Superbike class has been the centerpiece of major-league motorcycle racing in the United States for nearly 30 years and the tradition continues in 2009 with the AMA Pro American Superbike class.

The AMA Pro Daytona SportBike is new class and a battleground between quick-handling 600cc motorcycles and a variety of big-bore bikes from Buell, Aprilia and Ducati making it AMA Pro's most diverse class. Corey will be working hard as he is competing in this class in addition to his Superbike race.

Corey is joined by Justin Givens from Rancho Cordova on a Yamaha, Sebastiao Ferreira from El Sobrante riding a Suzuki, Eric Gulbransen from Palo Alto is on a KTM and Liko Miles from San Francisco, Oscar Covarrubias from Salinas and Nadr Riad from San Francisco all riding Yamahas.

AMA Pro SuperSport is AMA Pro Road Racing's showcase of America's future motorcycle racing stars today. This proving ground series is reserved strictly for up-and-coming riders between the ages of 16 and 21 who compete on sport bikes that are only minimally modified from what you will find at your local Aprilia, Buell, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, Ducati or other motorcycle dealership. Top speeds for competing bikes reach in excess of 160 mph.

Joey Pascarella from Vacaville will be riding a Yamaha. Pascarella raced in the AMA Red Bull Rookies Cup 2008 season and finished seventh and was invited to participate in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in Valencia Spain during the last round of the MotoGP series.). Andrew Silva from Gilroy and Garrett Willis from Loomis will both be riding Yamahas in the SuperSport class.
