In the exciting world of Motorcycling new events are popping up everywhere. Many are small and take years to become noteworthy. Mega events like Sturgis, Daytona and Laconia take front stage in bikers flock to these meetings annually. On rare occasion a local event jumps to regional status quickly and in some cases gain national attention in a short time. Such is the case with Leesburg, Florida Bikfest. After only 13 years the bikefest has become one of the most popular events in the East.
"This is a great place. Leesburg has been growing ever since we've been coming here. [It's] bigger and better every year and it's friendly." Says Joe Short, "Here you feel like they really want you to come. It's a nice place. It's fun to come here."
Many prefer the laid back atmosphere to the faster-paced national events. "It's more laid back," says Jeremy Erdies, "It's more of an elite crowd of true bikers. I've had a great time. I'll definitely be back next year and have a great time with friends."
With non-stop bands on three stages, beauty contests, the Rat-Hole's Bike Show and hundreds of vendors Leesburg excitement is second to none. John Calura says, "It's a great time. [They] have a lot of goodt bands, a lot of good vendors, a lot of good food. It's going to be a good time." "I enjoy coming down here," says William Henderson. "Spending time with the people and hanging out. Eating food here.
Organizer and headman of the Leesburg Partnership, Joe Shipes, has made successful events his trademake in Leesburg. He never rests during the four day event. An organized team of city employees and volunteers make Leesburg a favorite amoung the biker crowd. John Calura says, "It seems to be a family orientated crowd. It's a nice, easy drive up here. It's a nice day out." Curtis Steele adds in, "It's just a great atmosphere. Everybody's protected. We're having a great time. The police have been great. The City of Leesburg have been really fantastic. Whether you are buying something or not you are welcome inside."
Along with the great organization of Bikefest, promoters and city visionaries have put in some serious thought and have spent literally millions in facilities to make Leesburg the perfect venue for this type of event. "No body is giving you a ticket because your handle bars are too high. No body is giving you a ticket because your bike was too loud. I love it here, it's great." says Rick Sarakoski. "It's a calm-downed crowd. Everybody is here for a good time," says Dudly Van Housen, "No body is here to have any trouble."
Leesburg has gorwn over the past few years to well over 100,000 attendies. As the vendors and activity areas continue to grow.
"From a dormad little sleepy place to a very big attraction for all in Florida." Says Anthony Banano, "And the people are great!" Clay Witworth said that the place is just going to get bigger every year. It is apparent that the Leesburg Partnership will continue to raise the bar as this killer event conitues to get larger each year.
Congrats go to Joe Shipes and the Leesburg Partnership with this great event.
