PAST EVENT - Rose Marie Bryon Childrens Center Giving Kids A Chance

The Rose Marie Bryon Children’s Center is a 501c(3) non-profit agency, and the oldest after-school program in Daytona Beach. The mission of the center is to provide a safe, positive, and Christian-based environment for at-risk children of the South side community of Daytona Beach, an environment that encourages education and positive self-esteem. This year the Rose Marie Bryon Children’s Center served 75 children with after-school care, summer camp, hosted weekly food drives for the community and provided a disaster relief center during recent flooding. This center provides in-depth programs such as educational tutoring, computer skills training, Boys & Girls Scouts, SHINE, and the drug, tobacco & alcohol prevention program called “Right Decisions, Right Now Club”. The Rose Marie Bryon Children’s Center is located within the state designated enterprise zone, and serves very low to moderate income families.

Currently, the Rose Marie Bryon Children’s Center is in danger of closing its doors, because of state and local budget cuts it has experienced. The dedicated staff have not taken many of their paychecks, so there would be enough money to continue the needed work and offering of services in the community. On May 24, 2010, the center was highlighted in the Daytona Beach News-Journal with the story entitled “Funding Loss Endangers Safe Place for Kids”. And as a direct result of that news story, a local organization has created the “Giving Kids a Chance” Poker Run & Block Party fundraiser.

On Saturday, October 16, 2010, the Eddie Jones Chapter of Royal Arch Masons will be hosting a charity fundraiser, the “Giving Kids a Chance” Poker Run & Block Party to raise $25,000 for the Rose Marie Bryon Children’s Center. Your contribution of any amount would greatly empower the many programs that the Rose Marie Bryon Children’s Center provides to at-risk youth. In return for your generosity, the Rose Marie Bryon Children’s Center will print your name as a generous financial donor on the official “Giving Kids a Chance” Poker Run & Block Party banner(s), which will be posted throughout the event.
