| DESCRIPTION | We would like to personally invite you to the 2nd Annual Easton Memorial Poker Run benefiting the Hand in Hand Program at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center! Last year we raised over $4000 for the Hand in Hand Program! This year our goal is $10,000! With your help, we are confident we will achieve it! The 2nd Annual Easton Memorial Poker Run is Saturday June 5, 2010 at the Firebarn Bar and Grill in Waterloo, NE (15 minutes west of Omaha on West Dodge Rd). This year’s activities include the Poker Run with registration beginning at 10am to noon, live entertainment including a comedy act and three outdoor bands beginning at 3pm, raffle prizes, silent auction, food, drinks and fun!About the Hand in Hand Program… More than 50,000 children die in the United States in each year; 75% take place in a hospital setting. Pediatric palliative care seeks to support painful decision making, provides measures to minimize the suffering of children and their families, and facilitates care in the hospital or in the home to children with life limiting or life threatening illnesses. The Hand in Hand Program speaks to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of children battling illnesses that are life threatening or life limiting and addresses the needs of their families. Seeking to prevent and relieve distress, the Hand in Hand Program supports the best possible quality of life for such children and their families, preferably from the time of diagnosis through family bereavement. The amazing Hand in Hand Program serves as a resource to the hospital, community and the entire region on pediatric palliative care. The Program provides education to hospital staff consistently to ensure that an absolute understanding of palliative care within the organization is achieved and maintained. Why the Hand in Hand Program? We support the Hand in Hand Program and host the Easton Memorial Poker Run in remembrance of our precious son, Easton. At 18 months old, Easton passed away at Children’s Hospital in July of 2008. The co-creator of the Hand in Hand Program, Chaplain Sheila Mee, is very special to our family. She stood with us by Easton’s side and gave us a sense of peace. She was instrumental in our healing and acceptance during our time of loss. Knowing what the Hand in Hand Program stands for has motivated us to work to ensure its continued existence so that other families may experience hope and light in a time of struggle. We urge you to please come out and help support the Hand in Hand Program. We hope to see you there to help reach this important goal!
